Trace the amps.

Find the bug before you order.

Your DRC passed. The board might still not work.

Amptrace simulates your layout with models built from your parts' datasheets. You see the current in each track and the voltage on each net, and the report lists what to fix.

Amptrace simulates your layout from each part's datasheet and shows you the current in each track, the voltage on each net and a report of what to fix.

Runs in your browser. To open your own board you need a free account, and the board still stays on your machine.

Copper coloured by the current it carries. Hover over a track, or tap it, to read the value.
What a respin costs

~90%

of first prototypes need a respin

2.9

respins on a typical project

added by each trip back to fab

Most respins come from mistakes that could have been caught before ordering. Amptrace gives you one more check before you do.

Highlights

One simulation, many ways to analyse it

all features

Current

Current in every track and via

The copper is split into segments and solved, so each track and via gets its own current and current density. Track widths and vias are checked against IPC-2221, and anything over the limit is reported.

Voltage

The voltage on every net

Every net and pin shows the voltage it actually reaches. That is how you spot a rail that never gets to its nominal value, a divider that is off, or an enable pin that stays low.

IR drop

Voltage lost in the copper

How many millivolts each track, via and plane loses, and which rails sag under load.

Thermal

Heat in parts and tracks

Power dissipation for each part and heating for each track. A resistor above its rated power, or a part that runs too hot, is reported.

Transient

Inrush, PWM and settling over time

Apply a step, pulse or sine to a source and simulate over time. Move the cursor to watch the current spike that would blow a fuse.

Design checks

Design checks that use the simulation

Missing pull-ups and decoupling, unprotected I/O, shorts and open copper, footprint problems and DFM. Each finding links to its place on the board.

Part models

Every part is modelled from its own datasheet

Expensive mistakes are often a part that behaves differently from what the schematic assumes, so Amptrace models each part from its own datasheet.

  • Real values. Threshold voltage, Rds(on), forward voltage or a regulator's reference come from the datasheet. Without one, a 1.2 mΩ MOSFET was once estimated at 30 mΩ.
  • No silent guesses. If no datasheet is found, the app tells you, and the Inspector shows the circuit it built and every assumption behind it.
  • Footprints checked. Each one is compared with the real package, which catches a transistor with its pads in the wrong order.

The report

The bugs you didn't think to look for

The report covers copper and power, layout, interfaces and manufacturability. It finds things like a regulator that never switches on because its EN pin is held low, and each finding links to its place on the board. Run on thousands of real boards, most had at least one finding.

Data & privacy · ask before sending

The simulation never uses the network, so it also works offline. Only the AI features send data, and never your copper or your files: part modelling sends part numbers and pin names, the assistant what you choose to share. The Privacy page lists what each feature sends.

  1. Nothing
  2. Only what I reference · default
  3. …and what it connects to
  4. The whole board
  1. Drop your design

KiCad, Altium, Eagle or ODB++. Gerber files work too, and the board is rebuilt from the copper.

  2. Model the parts, solve on your machine

Each part is modelled from its datasheet. Importing, simulation and all analyses then run on your machine, in the desktop app or a browser tab.

  3. Fix it before you order

Check the values, run the design checks and export the report before you send the board to fab.

Questions? Talk to us

Ask whether it works with your board, what a finding means, or about a feature you are missing. We can also give you a demo on one of your own designs.

Your next board probably has a bug in it.

Try Amptrace on the demo board: run the simulation, look at the heat map and run the checks. No account needed.
