Your board stays on your machine.
Amptrace runs locally, in your browser or the desktop app. Import, simulation, checks and your saved projects all stay on your machine, and we have no server that stores designs. Only the AI features send data off your machine, and you decide what they share.
What stays on your machine and what can leave
Your machine · always
- Importing and parsing your files
- The copper solve, thermal, transient
- Design checks and the report
- Saved projects and error logs
Simple parts are modelled here
- resistors
- capacitors
- inductors
- diodes
- LEDs
- switches
- fuses
- jumpers
Connectors, test points and mounting holes need no model at all.
Parts and datasheetswhen you model parts, look one up or check footprints
ref · part number · value · footprint · description · pin names · the datasheet · for a programmable part, also the net on each pin and your code
The assistantwhen you send it a message · in agent mode, at every step
your messages · what your share setting allows, and nothing beyond it, in agent mode too
Your accountwhen you sign in, and while you are signed in
your email address and password at sign-in · plan and usage checks · update checks in the desktop app
Never your copper or the file you imported, and no part positions outside agent mode.
This is the short version. The app's Data & privacy panel lists every request in full, with its exact payload.
What that looks like on a real board
The demo board has 60 parts. Sorted by the rule the app uses:
modelled on your machine · resistors, capacitors, LEDs, switches, inductors, diodes
need no model · connectors
sent for a model, in 4 requests · transistors, ICs
Identical parts go as one request. Nothing goes until you click Model all.
One of the 4 · U1 · AP2112K-3.3All of it
{"ref": "U1","value": "AP2112K-3.3","footprint": "Package_TO_SOT_SMD:SOT-23-5","description": "600mA low dropout linear regulator, with enable pin, 3.8V-6V input voltage range, 3.3V fixed positive output, SOT-23-5","pins": [{ "number": "1", "name": "VIN", "etype": "power_in" },{ "number": "2", "name": "GND", "etype": "power_in" },{ "number": "3", "name": "EN", "etype": "input" },{ "number": "4", "name": "NC", "etype": "no_connect" },{ "number": "5", "name": "VOUT", "etype": "power_out" }]}
From a model request, our server gets no nets, no neighbouring parts, no position, no copper and not the file you imported. With your own API key it carries the nets too, see below.
With your own API key
Own API keys are held back until the Enterprise plan is on sale, so today every request above goes to our server. Where one is in use, on that plan or in a copy of the app with no server of ours, nothing goes through us: each request goes from your browser or the desktop app straight to the provider the key belongs to, Anthropic (api.anthropic.com) or OpenAI (api.openai.com).
- AI part models The request carries more on this route: the net on each pin, up to 8 other pads on that net with their values, and every field the part has in your design.
- The assistant · Agent mode The same as through our server: everything your share setting allows. At “The whole board” that is every part with the net on each pin, every net name and the node voltages.
- Part programs · Footprint check What they carry above. The footprint check needs an Anthropic key, because its web search runs there. A part lookup with your own Mouser key goes to Mouser (api.mouser.com).
Every one of them is in the ledger in Data & privacy, under the address it really went to.
Check it yourself
You don't have to take our word for it. Each of these checks takes about a minute.
Pull the plug
Open the app and turn off Wi-Fi. Then open a board and run the simulation and the checks. It all still works, because none of it uses the network.
Read the ledger
Open Data & privacy in the app. Every AI, part-lookup and datasheet request is listed there with the exact payload it carried, and the desktop app lists its update checks too. In the browser, until you use one of those, it says “Nothing has left this device.”
Watch the network
Open your browser's developer tools on the Network tab, then import a board. No request carries it anywhere.
Ask before sending
Hold requests for your approval and see what they carry first. At Never, every request is still logged.

Consultants
A client's design stays on the machine it was handed to.
Regulated work
For medical, defence or export-controlled designs, the design never reaches the vendor.
